Annie welcomed the Committee.
Â
Darryl noted that in the previous Committee lunch, £25 was passed to purchase a birthday gift and card for Richard (the JCR cleaner), and hence asked people to sign a card for Richard the JCR cleaner.
Â
Darryl told the Committee that the JCR has ran out of ping pong balls, and hence asked the Committee to pass £15 for ping pong balls.
Hugo asked how many ping pong balls this would purchase. Darryl responded between one and a million.
Cealach asked if any preventative measures had been taken in light of the previous discussion on preventing unnecessary expenditure on table tennis. Darryl suggested a box, but noted that the cases for the table tennis bats have since gone missing, and hence did not give off a vibe of incredible hope that any such measure would be incredibly successful.
Annie suggested creating a table tennis soc to be on sports committee to apply for money to reduce this expenditure. Darryl agreed and suggested we take this up next term. Annie asked Darryl to pass this on to the sports officers.
The Committee passed £15.
Â
Cealach noted that she had been talking to Ian, and noted that a lot of people had been being fined for a lack of back lights during the night, and told the Committee that this affects second years (who live out) most. She told the Committee that Ian had suggested the Committee buy bike lights to be stored in the Porters lodge for members of the JCR to buy should the need arise, and hence asked for £50 for the purchase of bike lights.
James asked if Cealach had talked to Matt about this. Cealach replied that she had not, but would happy to discuss this with him.
It was asked if the JCR would be receiving the cost of the bike locks from the money taken via the sales of the locks. It was replied that this is not clear at the moment and would be found out.
Cealach also noted that Ian suggested purchasing D-locks, with which the Committee agreed, noting the recent spate of bike thefts.
The Committee passed up to £50.
Annie suggested the Committee investigate bike insurance companies to potentially recommend to the JCR, noting that regardless of the locks sold, bikes can always be stolen (James took this opportunity to terrify the owners of bikes among the Committee by detailing one such way locks can be circumvented).
Emily suggested that Matt be asked to create a document to release to the JCR about bike safety.
Â
Molly noted that the TED talks event will be occurring tomorrow, and asked the Committee to encourage people to speak, and encouraged attendance.
Annie asked when it would be run, Molly replied 7:30pm. Annie suggested Molly talk to Foodys and Charity reps about selling food for the purpose of increasing attendance. Molly replied that there seemed to be an agreement in the last meeting to not serve food, however the possibility of serving drinks remains open.
Hugo discussed the possibility of alcohol sales for the event.
Â
Darryl asked the Committee to seek reimbursements soon.
Â
Darryl told the Committee that he had compiled a list of the offices and the money that they had passed, and offered the perception of this as an accurate reflection of the activity of that office; he noted that Molly had passed £120 this term and had passed the most money, and hence praised this activity; he gave an honourable mention to Hubert and Ploy, and told certain other officers to up their game.
Â
Ste told people to give reports because this would make them cool to him and this is something he presumes they care about.
Â
Annie asked the Committee to fill out the OUSU welfare survey and to encourage friends to fill out the survey, noting that 50% is the threshold for a Balliol welfare package. Darryl asked how many more people would have to fill out the survey for this threshold to be reached; Annie replied that she had not received those numbers.
Molly offered to further promote the welfare survey.
