Committee Lunch: 2nd Week TT 2017
Â
Item 1:Â
The nook- Ele
Â
Ele explains that she has been calling the little area next to pantry in the JCR the ‘nook’, people like to sleep and relax there. She is hoping to pass some money to make it a little nicer, maybe having some beanbag chairs against the pipes and a sign that says ‘the nook’ (like the Norway Room sign.) She also wants to get some sort of block of wood to raise the bookshelf up against the wall and do the same with the crafts cupboard.Â
She is asking for up to £50 for the beanbag chairs, but they should be around £40,Â
She is also asking for £12ish for the sign and will source the wood herself.Â
Â
Zach suggested that we should do it up properly, go to a GM and get more money to make the nook much nice. This would mean we wouldn't have to be so constrained. This is important because the renovation of the nook clearly has lots of benefits.
Â
Cameron asked about the general refurbishment of the JCR, and could this be fed into this to be simplified? This could then be the first stage of renovating the JCR?
Â
Ele said that she personally really likes this area and wants it nicer as soon as possible. It is a smaller project but she is happy to bring to a GM a request for more money to do it up more nicely.
Â
£12 passes for the sign.
Â
Â
Item 2:Â
Clothes swap- Monique
Â
Monique says that she has been in touch with Oxford Women International, and wants to help to run some of their events in college, as some other colleges can’t facilitate their work. Especially, Oxford Women have been operating a cloths swap, which is good for the environment. She wants to book a room in college so that can take place. She is happy to run it past Rachel first.Â
Â
All agree this is a good idea.Â
Â
Item 3:Â
Reimbursement - Zach
Â
Zach explains that previously CL passed £22 for Dani’s birthday present and card, but Denise reminded him that for big birthdays they tend to spend more and so he bought a £35 voucher. He is asking to be reimbursed the extra £15 he spent.Â
Â
All agree.Â
Â
Item 4:Â
Ball- Juliet
Â
Juliet says that she it still asking for more people to check rooms on Balliol main site before the Ball, she says it will not take long but does mean that she will be able to guarantee a leaving time of 5pm rather than earlier.Â
She says that on the night everything should run really smoothly, but she is asking Committee if they could be on the lookout for any issues, as having more eyes around is helpful so that no issue is overlooked. She explains that there are places for people to go if there is a welfare issue.Â
Â
Item 5:Â
The bar- Cameron
Â
Cameron reminds everyone that college will not let large groups into the bar without letting porters, Dean and Cameron know first. He is encouraging members of sports societies especially to mention it to them and will send an email. He also reminds people to bring back pint glasses and try to stop people taking them where possible.Â
Â
Hubert adds that we also need to bring back mugs to pantry.
Â
Item 6:Â
The No-Confidence motion- FreddyÂ
Â
Freddy explains that there is no motion for no-con of the JdeBs this GM on Sunday because the JdeBs have stepped down and it is not possible to no-con someone who is not in office.Â
Alex asks if there will be a re-election of JdeBs and Ste explains that there are the most bops in Michaelmas so it is worth re-electing.Â
Ele says that the finalists’ memories for the 8th week bop with be vetted in the same way as the JdeBs and this vetting process will be clarified in a motion for the 5th week GM. The vetting motion will not be this Sunday because welfare would like to hold an open-welfare meeting first.Â
The Class Officer motion will be co-ordinated around this and the proposers will liaise with Freddy.Â
