    1. Matters Arising

    Ali

We discussed the raising of the compulsory levy a few weeks ago but Zach wasn’t here. There is no precedent to raise the levy without taking it to a GM and it has normally gone through a GM, even for a movement of 7p.

Zach said he thought the changing of the levies was at the discretion of the treasurer. The decision to raise the levy was made between Hilary and Trinity terms as an agreement to help out the bar’s financial situation and prevent loss to the JCR. He thought that it could be at the discretion of the treasurer but if it isn’t it is not clear in the constitution or standing orders. It was a mistake that the raising of the levy was not announced to everyone clearly with the bar’s price increase. If this is taken to a GM, he believes it should be made explicit that it is not the role of the treasurer to increase the levy.

Ali confirmed he believes it should got to a GM.

Zach explained that in the current handover pack, the treasurer can do whatever he wants. This was a crisis response in this case and an accident that no one was told. However, there are good reasons why the treasurer has discretion.

Hubert said that there is agreement that it should have been announced more clearly and is a good idea to take to a GM. He said the fact that it happened will be taken, alongside what people want going forwards.

It is agreed that Zach will write the motion or delegate to the future treasurer.

    Zach (Maggie’s birthday)

Zach explained that it is Maggie (Maureen’s Mum’s) birthday and he wanted to pass £21.50 to get her some vouchers and a card.

    No opposition and motion passes.

    Isis (Class Officer motion)

Isis explained that she just wanted to check if there were any concerns with making last term’s CAFGO creation motion available on the Class Officer’s Facebook group to have a diverse range of options from which to write their motions.

    No objections

    2. AOB

Ste said that we have got 20 more people to apply for maintenance grants this year than previous years. Izzy added that Stacey McGowan is keen to have feedback to improve the process and encourage more people to apply in the future. Isis asked if students are allowed to appeal their decisions on the grounds that college may not have had access to all relevant information and Hannah explained that they could, as there is a link from Bruce at the end of the email.Â
