1. Matters Arising
Line for the bottom of Committee emails
There was a discussion about the phrasing of the line to put at the bottom of emails sent from JCR Committee members to discourage sharing content outside the college. It was decided the line should be: “This email is intended for members of Balliol JCR only; sharing of this information is discouraged.”
JCR Rainbow Flag
There was a discussion over why Balliol hasn’t got a rainbow flag up yet - the committee was informed that it was damaged last year.
Up to 10 pounds was passed to purchase a new one.
Leah also said she would discuss in a meeting the length of time it would be possible to have it up for.
Reduction in newspapers
Thomas raised the idea of reducing the number of Cherwell and OxStu papers the JCR buys as currently quite a few go unread. It was discussed that this issue has been brought to a GM previously but it turned out to be quite a challenge to reduce the number of papers. Some raised the notion that it is good to support university newspapers to keep them running even if they aren’t all read.
Reimbursement for snacks at the Emergency GM
Beth requested a reimbursement of £17.33 for snacks bought at the recent emergency GM.
Passes.
2. AOB
Constitution Rewriting update
Leah informed the committee that she hasn’t heard back yet from a person at another college she contacted regarding how to go about rewriting the constitution. It is thought however that it will have to pass through a GM to start the process and then another one later to approve the new text.
