Annie hoped that everyone was feeling okay.
Â
Sophie asked the Committee if they looked at a blog called postsecret, where people send in secrets on post cards. She described it as the most popular advertisement-free blog in the world. She suggested a Balliol equivalent as an artsy-welfarey thing. She noted the secrets ranged from small things to quite personal things, and hence expressed concerns that there may be some triggering content, and hence advised against putting it up in a public space. She suggested there could be a display event should there be many post cards, or it could just be done on a blog.
James called it a nice idea. He expressed his agreement with her assessment regarding public spaces, arguing that the reason it works on the net is that there is such a wide pool of people so it’s very anonymised. He overall thought the idea was good. He asked if she had a venue idea. Sophie responded that she presumed a space such as the Massey room would be appropriate.
Sam suggested trying a blog for a month, and should the submissions be sufficient, have an event. Richard suggested covering the post cards in the JCR with slips that contain CWs.
Annie expressed her support for the idea. Sophie responded that she would publicise this on the Facebook page.
Â
Annie noted that there had been a comment on the Facebook page about an emergency JCR tea, which she suggested may be a positive thing given how America done messed up. James was very in favour.
Darryl noted that there would be screenings of Roahl Dahl films ini the JCR, and hence suggested that the tea occur between screenings. They agreed at around seven would be appropriate; Darryl suggested James liaise with Xav.
Â
Annie noted that elections were occurring for the JCR president and the Committee and the non-Committee positions. She therefore asked Committee to be sure that they submit their role descriptions as immediately. She encouraged people to go to any husts that are available.
Sam asked if questions could be sent in. Annie suggested they could be sent to her to be asked by proxy. Richard asked if there would be minuting; Darryl will be minuting the presidential elections.
She noted the presidential husts would be occurring tomorrow at seven.
Sam asked if the womens’ rep voting would be happening in the same way as last year, noting that there are issues with that. Annie agreed that there are issues with it; she would be happy to discuss it, but there were no better ideas that were forthcoming.
Â
Darryl noted arts and crafts tomorrow would be the responsibility of Picture fund reps, but they wouldn’t be available, and hence asked if someone would like to do it. Cealach clarified that this would just be setting up.
Cealach said she would ask two members to do it.
Darryl told the Committee that there would be a themed literary competition for cocktails. Richard asked if there would be non-alcoholic options availalble.
The Committee agreed to pass £50 from the Scrawl budget for this.
Â
The meeting was adjourned.
