Minutes of Balliol’s General Meeting 7th Week Hilary Term 2022
1. First Motion
This motion was proposed by the Treasurer, Matt. He briefly recapped the motion, as it had already been summarised and voted on before. However, as a constitutional amendment it had to be voted on again.
The motion will create a new system of requiring greater majorities for motions involving money. The motion passed.
2. Second Motion
The Charity Officer, Georgie, proposed a motion to reimburse 60 pounds worth of props used for the Charity Musical. It would be better for the JCR to reimburse the Charity Musical for some items bought rather than using money from the master’s fund.
It was also noted that 2,500 pounds had been made from the musical.
The motion was passed.
3. Third Motion
The President restated the motion to create a new committee role, as it is a constitutional amendment. The new committee role would write and produce a weekly newsletter about current events at Balliol. It could also be two roles, potentially.
Qn: When will this position be elected?
As soon as possible. It will depend upon Martin Burton, since he is the returning officer. However, it could potentially be whenever we want. We just have to give two weeks notice.
Qn: Will it be individually or in pairs? This is not known at this point.
It was also noted that there should be an encouragement for more people to submit tips, so it is more JCR-wide.
