Matters Arising
- Richard asked what was going on with the back gate. Duncan said it's an ongoing situation and College is still working on it.
- The craft cupboard is done, and the keys have been handed out!
Agenda
- Molly said they're looking into getting flower petals and the like for Committee. Gardens Committee have complained that cava is being sprayed around and is killing the plants. Duncan said he'd looked into petal confetti, it was fairly cheap, and asked if we thought the JCR should buy some. He began looking into the price of petal confetti.
- Molly said she'd been looking into the idea of putting together welfare-y podcasts for on the website, and that they'd spoken to Alex about it. People generally felt that it was a good idea.Â
- George is working with Kate and the outreach people to do something a bit different this year - College want more involvement with and promotion of the JCR at the open days. He'd like help from the Committee to work on things. Molly suggested having a general welfare / disabilities support stall, since she's currently writing a disabilities support guide for prospective students. George said he'll email round once there are clearer ideas about what's going on. Richard Ware pointed out that there might well be a giant hole in the floor of the JCR due to construction works, and that the Bar would probably be full of building works. George said that JdB want to do a small pamphlet or the like for the open day. Following further debate, it was decided that the discussion should be continued via email.
- Molly urged everyone to do their noticeboards. Again.
- Molly said that as well as the trashing feedback, Gardens Committee said that there was lots of litter around after the ball; Molly feels that we should make sure the new Ball Committee should work more closely with College to clean up litter.
- Duncan said that £9.50 would buy us 10 cones' worth of petals. There was some debate over whether the JCR should be paying for people's trashing supplies; Molly responded that there was already trashing stuff in the JCR office, to which people responded with general surprise. It was decided that people were fairly indifferent to the petal confetti, so the idea was shelved. Cigarette butts are manky and should be kept off the grass.
- Molly said that we've got great biodiversity at Balliol, including several species of rare bee, and said that her and Gardens Committee had debated doing an 'insect hotel'-building event to protect them. It would probably take place at the start of next term.
- Molly said that if anyone had website resources we thought would be particularly good, we shouldÂ
- Richard said election voting was on Saturday and that people would need to help out.Â
- Molly's looking into putting together a collection of welfare documents.
- Duncan asked who had exams around June Jamboree and would be unable to help. Everyone else will be on the rota.
- Hall are changing how they feed us so that people who turn up later will still get nice food, and that we need to encourage people to go later in order to test the new system.
AOB
- Molly's writing a letter to Oxford City Council about disabled access, and asked for the JCR's backing.
- Kat said that the first round of facilitator training for freshers' consent workshops is starting soon.
- The JCR is a bit of a mess, with plates and the like being left around. Heidi is understandably grumpy about this.Â
- The Dean is a bit concerned about the promises auction, and drunken people bidding excessive amounts of money or for things they don't want.Â
The meeting ended.
