Minutes
Matters Arising
- Duncan asked if there had been any progress on the Pantry list of skilled workers; there had not.
- Aisha asked what the status of the water cooler was; Mike responded that it was proving too expensive to buy lots of water. John said that he and Denise had considered turning it into a plumbed water cooler using the sink in the TV room; general surprise was expressed at the existence of said sink.Â
- Richard Ware said that "barps" were a great success and he was looking into making them a thing on non-bop weeks.
- Happy hour has been redone, and gives 25% off to people who bring their meal down to the bar. Various methods for improving advertising of happy hours was discussed.
- Birthday deals aren't going to be investigated further. Group deals are being worked on still.
Pantry
- Pantry has made about £500 this term in profit, but that's likely to be cancelled out by 9th week costs (around £2000 in Trinity). We made £1000 profit last term, and Mike hopes to make a few hundred pounds this term.
- They hope to do another barbecue at the June Jamboree. Aisha suggested having one in Freshers' week, though concern was expressed over the weather.
- Takings are consistently less than in previous years, but profits are much higher.Â
- We're still looking for an extra staff member.
- Duncan got an email from College about whether we wanted an EPOS till installed in Pantry (like the one in Hall). It would cost around £1800, and would allow people to top-up their cards online. We felt the idea was only helpful in Trinity term for finalists on battels; we'll re-assess the idea after this term when we have some data on battels for finalists.
- Alex McKenzie and I will try (again) to look into pantry software over the vac.Â
- Guy has been difficult recently about Pantry shift attendance, which has resulted in some trouble.
Bar
- Duncan feels that Freshers' Week is key to getting people using the Bar and Pantry, and suggested getting a stall for the bar at the OUSU freshers' fair to boost out-of-College visitors.
- Summer Eights was good - we took around £814 in revenue, but that only made £68 more than this week last year. Overall we're expecting to make about £4000 below our target for this term.Â
- Pimms takes a great deal of work and requires expensive fruit and veg; Richard isn't inclined to start selling it generally.
- We still have lots of stock in the bar, which should hopefully sell over 8th and 9th as finishing finalists migrate to the bar.Â
- Jugs keep getting broken and will be replaced. One of the pool cues has also been broken, by an individual described as a "little shit". Richard is looking into repairing it.
General Finances
- College is paying for the Freshers' week mugs Aisha is buying. Richard suggested selling the mugs via the JCR website like club tickets.
- John emailed round a breakdown of the JCR finances, and asked if we thought the format was good. He presented us with several copies of our termly / annual accounts in printed format for comparison. Finance Subcommittee felt it was a big improvement, and congratulated John on his work. He will be presenting it to Jo Roadknight and Dick Collier shortly for their approval.
The meeting ended.
