JCR Prospectus
Maddie – going very well. Happy to send it to everyone in Committee to review before finalised.
Budget Update
Elsa – submitted budget, more ambitious than expected because high reserves, but wants to spend money on good projects rather than waste it or money from College will drop. We have forecast for a coffee vending machine (will consider options), maybe free?
Callum – not free, just cheap.
Elsa – yeah very cheap, 70p? Also kept £10,000 aside for Arts Week, to do something really cool for a week. Has put aside money, but others would have to put in work to do the work.
Callum – maybe a VP Admin x Arts Rep collab?
Elsa – could maybe try run two next year? One in Michaelmas
Ruby – an example from 2019, where they had one with henna, but wasn’t picked up.
Arina – Worcester does an annual exhibition, very popular.
Elsa – has set aside budget, would love for it to happen. Have set aside money for a lot of stuff, if you want to do it, come up with ideas, would need to be properly thought through, is a possibility, just requires initiative and will.
Elsa – also has a meeting set up with Helen Ghosh to discuss her concerns about mural. Has set aside budget for this too.
Hall Food
Callum – had meeting with head chef yesterday.Â
- Less wet veg food? He said usually make stew using spare ingredients that are leftover as easy option, happy to try moreÂ
- Salad bar – they can’t do anything
- Carbohydrate variety – they are doing couscous one night next week, will trial other veggies too
- Sauce – they have agreed to ensure sufficient sauce on side so not too dry
- Soup as a main – agreed for that from next term
- Pasta as a main – unsure, lost of effort and food waste if people don’t eat, though
- More cultural themed dinner – will try to do more of itÂ
Mukund – can we recommend dishes to head chef ourselves?
Callum – I’ll check with him first
Elsa – Callum can maybe send a google form to everyone for submitting recipes.
Freshers Week
Towa – calendar done, we need to make a specific JCR plan. Intention is fewer compulsory talks, do them online 2 weeks instead run by Freps. And then there are a few talks on Tuesday and Wednesday. Asks all to contribute as much as possible to events, Entz, socials. Has sent out a budget (total £650 for events excluding Pantry, Bar, Freps). Invited all to join the Committee + Masters intro on Monday, applies only to those who are here. Need to change college parent meeting time, change subject parents too to Tuesday.
Daisy – feels Entz role is very limited (to Bop), happy to do more if any ideas.
Callum – main idea is more non-drinking events because so many drinking events already. Scope for you to do more if you want to.
Felicity – is it under Entz reps’ duty to decide on Angels?
Towa – no it’s mine. Should not be much segregation, try include as many people in events as possible. Try to collaborate with other reps. Emphasizes you have autonomy for events such as college parents one.
Elsa – who is running which events? Asking for budgetary reasons
Towa – will be done via group chat, need to add International Reps. All budgets will be distributed to follow College guidelines.Â
Keira – can we change timings of events? E.g., disability event so doesn’t clash with boat club one
Towa – minor changes are fine, as long as well before Freshers’ Week.
June Jamboree
Towa – it is a mini garden party, takes place on Friday 9th Week, 3-9 with free food such as burger and ice cream, drinks, bouncy castle in Jowett, relatively small scale. Attempt for next year is larger scale, didn’t pass this week.
Callum – for whole college, including MCR and Staff, not a carnival atmosphere, just an end of year fun event.
Towa – food will be great.
Keira – a nice event post-exams.
Towa – aim for better advertising this year.
Other stuff
Mukund – photos arriving tomorrow, will aim to distribute to all on Sunday.
Callum – this week’s GM is important, discussion on passing over control of housing to College, come and tell friends.
Towa – join tote bag competition
Elsa – what is happening with housing? Any updates?
Towa – is it appropriate?Â
Callum – we have already spoken about this. Spoke to Dean, Keeley will return next week, decision made at start of next week. Looks like he is leaning towards sending something out, letting people switch rooms. Will talk to Housing reps about them resigning once Dean has decided on course of action.
Daisy – what happened?
Callum – ballot was messed up with, don’t worry it doesn’t affect you if on Jowett.
Towa – been a difficult period for everyone, important for all to not stress too much about it, keep it out of your mind.
Callum – don’t make it a massive thing.
Arina – did you manage to make form for feedback anonymous? Also can we have a QR codeÂ
Callum – no, will try to on weekend. Please try to get friends to use it.
Adam – can send on Facebook.
Towa – what next for stash?
Callum – Balliol coaster, bottle opener.
Elsa – assume you can’t remove VAT given she hasn’t replied.Â
Adam – French Navy won for committee stash, completely free.
