    Matters Arising

    1. Committee Handover

Dan was reminded about organising a committee handover event. He said that the bar will be open till 2am on Saturday night/Sunday morning, for everyone.

    Agenda

    1. Christmas [Anna]

Last year we had mulled wine and mince pies in the JCR. Anna thinks this could be co-ordinated with decorating the tree. Richard is going to bring a motion to the GM so the committee can buy a tree every year.

Sam Bumby brought up the event where school children are coming into Balliol. Balliol and St Johns told the council that they didn’t want to have the procession of school children with lights along St Giles. The JCR have decided that we are going to have children in the College instead. Entz brought up the possibility of Christmas karaoke.

    2. Christmas Tree [Anna]

Last year we got a proper tree and then after interviews gave it to a member of staff. People are already trying to sell Dan a tree by email. Chessy said that two years ago we spent £75 on a tree. We think this is probably fine, but the money couldn’t be passed at committee lunch. We agreed that decorating the tree could be a welfare thing.

    3. Franks and Franks [Dan]

College is having a “rebranding” exercise over the next sixth months. Dan is meeting with the logo person, who wants to know how Balliol could be conveyed in a font style. Chessy pointed out that there has been some theory that women are put off applying to “pompous” Colleges. Claudia also objected to the adjective “edgy” to describe Balliol – “because it just isn’t”.

    4. Elections [Dan]

Treasurer, VP, and affiliations officers hustings will take place next Sunday, so that people who don’t get a position who ran this time could run for those positions. Claudia pointed out the problem of people being handed a slip to vote for womens officer, or not, which might correspond to whether or not it is appropriate for them to vote for that position.

    5. TV Room GM Motions [Matt]

Matt Lynch says that they would like to pass £500 to buy three sofas, two sets of lockers, and storage equipment. RM asked if they were planning on repainting it. They aren’t at the moment. MD asked where ML thought the money would come from. ML said Entz or General Fund. MD said that the General Fund is currently empty because of washing machine repairs. ML doesn’t yet know what they would do with the furniture currently in the TV room.

    6. JdeB pantomime [Georgina for Harry Rimmer]

AH said that the people in it were committee; it was quite cutting about Committee members, and only about ten to fifteen minutes. AH said that we should ask the current and new JdeBs to do it, as a collaborative hand-over task.

    AOB

The Entz are thinking of doing Christmas dinner online, on a first come first serve basis.

When we had a hand-over committee lunch, it was quite awkward and the tone wasn’t great. We won’t do that. I was passed up to £50 to buy sustenance for hand-over committee lunch in eighth week.

Anna Hufton reminded us that there will be a memorial service at 3.30pm for John on Friday. Alex Mullan said that the portrait of John (that will go behind the bar) is in progress.
