Date of Meeting

JCR Committee Meeting 2 HT26 — 25.01.2026

In attendance: President, Secretary, Access and Admissions, Comrade Tortoise, Women*, Entz, E&E, Academic Affairs, John de Balliol, Bike Rep, Duckworth, Lord Lindsay, VP Org, Welfare, CAFGO, Website and Computing

Non-committee members (see I.): Eli.

I. Disabilities Officer co-option

Eli: Need someone to do the job, I have been dealing with the DAS, need to have someone who has dealt with that and has a good relationship with Hannah.

Toby: Will you run events?

Eli: Will try to keep DisabiliTEA, but maybe not this term. (I have mods.)

Unanimous vote in favour of Eli.

Eli has been co-opted as Disabilities Officer.

II. Green Action Week

Elizabeth R: Green Action Week coming up in Week 6. Planning Jowett tower electricity competition, Pint of Sustainability (looking for someone in JCR to give a 20 min talk).

Elizabeth P: We’re working out logistics of a clothes swap.

Toby: Could do a nature walk?

E+E: Sure! Any ideas welcome.

III. BOP

Zach: It was a good BOP, despite slightly lower turnout.

Room to improve: cleanup — paid people to stay but not for long enough, so I ended up cleaning alone. Bring back JCR committee cleanup volunteers?

Drink numbers — too many, so start lower next time.

Rethink staffing numbers maybe.

Ticketing system seemed to work, still in early stages.

Michael: It seemed to run smoothly, tickets worked well. Reuben mostly decided the staff numbers.

Toby: The reason JCR cleanup began was because of a GM motion for a cleanup crew which never got off the ground.

Adam: It was always JCR committee, the motion just formalised it. It has always been volunteers.

Amalia: Some leeway in how many people we can hire.

Eve: Avoid getting committee to do it — same people volunteer over and over, and we can’t guarantee volunteers will actually stay for cleanup.

Will: The issue was partly with the bigger equipment. I could get Duckworths to help with sound system — can use the people we have more efficiently.

Toby: Payment is the best way to do it. Paid people are guaranteed to be there until the end, and it’s not fair on committee members. We can workshop the staff numbers.

Will: DJ was shit. Don't use him again. He was wasted and didn't help with the equipment.

Toby: Staffing?

Zach: See how it goes. Just teething problems.

Michael: We have £400 per term for staffing.

Amalia: There is more money in the staff budget than it took to staff the last bop.

Will: Entz did a good job.

General agreement.

Michael: Tickets — could do 3 releases of 75.

Amalia: Might limit to 3 guest tickets per person.

Toby: Free boptails were being given out?

Zach: Too many made.

Some general confusion about what happened. But NBD.

Toby: Just consider possible welfare issues with free drinks.

Zach: We normally sell 450, so made 300. Sold 250.

Michael: Next BOP is Valentine’s masked ball. Scheduled for Week 3, but seems to be a clash with parent formal. Will check date with Greg Butler.

Cigarette extenders for BOP decorations?

Adam: Might have the same laws as cigarettes, so maybe not.

Update: greenlight on cig holders!

Elizabeth P: No cigarette bin next to JCR, technically can't put it there (fire risk), but people smoke there anyway so looking into getting one. Make sure there’s a cig bin nearby if smoking is being encouraged.

Meeting adjourned.
